As the promise of warmer weather begins to take shape, we of course start daydreaming about the summer months when the sun is out, the gardens are flourishing, and the island is abuzz. Island Grown Schools also has something new to look forward to this year: a rejuvenated summer program!
The Youth Food Activist program is designed for rising 9th graders, and will run weekly from July 9th through August 17th. The program is free to attend, and students are encouraged to sign up for one or more weeks. Participants will split their time between Island Grown Initiative's Farm Hub in Vineyard Haven and Slough Farm in Katama, and take part in gardening, animal chores, cooking, gleaning activities, and life skill building. Any student interested in food, farming, the agricultural community, or community service should apply. This program will be a great way to meet other soon to be high schoolers from around the island, grow some food, and have fun in the sun!
Suzie Scordino, Island Grown Schools' Education Coordinator for the Oak Bluffs School and MVRHS will be managing the program. Feel free to reach out to her at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information, or click here to apply.
We'll see you all when the sun is shining!
