Community Supported Agriculture

CSA stands for community supported agriculture. Members pay an up front cost to a local farm in exchange for regular pick-ups of a diverse array of produce. Think of it as a produce subscription. We offer a summer CSA with weekly and bi-weekly pickups, June through October, and a winter CSA with bi-weekly pickups, November through February. The food in your CSA share comes from our fields and greenhouse. Read more below to see if CSA is right for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Approximately half of the food we grow at the farm is donated to Islanders in need of food support through our Island Food Pantry and other food equity partners. The member fees from our CSA program help underwrite the cost of these donations and support our regenerative agricultural efforts at the farm.

We love having our CSA members visit the farm regularly, to get to know our farmers, to learn more about our work, and to connect with the land their food comes from.

  • During summer and early fall you can expect to receive beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, collards, eggplant, kale, lettuce, melons, onions, peppers, potatoes, strawberries, summer squash, tomatoes, and more! Our winter CSA includes more storage and root crops such as beets, cabbage, celeriac, carrots, garlic, kohlrabi, onions, potatoes, radishes. Greens from our indoor soil beds are included in both summer and winter CSA.

  • The full share, 20 weekly pickups, should be enough to feed a family of four each week or two people who really love vegetables. If you think the full share may be too large for you or your household, consider the half share! Half shares members will have 10 bi-weekly pickups.

  • Members should understand the potential risks of joining a CSA some of which include crop loss due to weather, insects and pests, and other production factors. Signing up for the CSA means you agree to share these risks. We will do our best to make up for any loss! Members also understand the potential of crop surplus. A bumper crop of eggplant and tomatoes means more of that crop for you!

  • We ask members to read the weekly newsletter we send out each Tuesday. This is where we list what we hope to have available for that week’s share. We’ll also communicate any changes to pickup and other important CSA information.

  • We encourage you to send a friend, family member, or neighbor to pick up your share if you are unable to make it to pickup. All they need to do is tell us your name and we’ll walk them through the process. If no one is able to pick up, the member must communicate to the CSA manager before the end of CSA hours (5:30 PM Thursday). Otherwise, your share may not be bagged for a later pickup. A refund will not be issued for any missed shares.

  • Park at the community garden lot during pickup. This is the first small lot you will see on your left. There is a person gate at the lot which you can use to walk toward the CSA pickup site. If the community garden lot is full there is a large circular visitor lot further down the driveway in front of our large greenhouse. Handicap parking spots are available within the farm gates, right next to our bathroom (the building with the pointy shingled roof).

If you are physically unable to walk from either parking lot or the handicap spaces, or the ground is icy, you can pull right up to the CSA pick up site. However, we ask you not to park here long term so we can keep the area clear for tractors and other farm vehicles.

  • No, with the exception of service animals please plan on leaving your pets at home. While we love dogs, they are not allowed at the CSA pick up site or in the fields, including the you-pick area, as part of our food safety policy.

  • A member favorite! We have a field designated just for CSA members to pick produce during regular CSA hours. We grow peas, beans, flowers, cherry tomatoes, and herbs in these fields. We’ll put up signs to indicate which crops are ready for picking. If there’s no sign, chances are the plants are not ready for picking or are done being picked for the season. We have a few pairs of clippers but not enough for all our members. If you have your own pair, bring them to avoid waiting for a pair to free up!

The you-pick area is next to our community garden area, separated by a dirt road. Please do not pick from the community garden area, these are private gardens that our dedicated community growers spend a lot of time tending to grow their own food.

  • Of course! We just ask that kids be supervised while at the farm. Our farm staff is busy working during CSA hours and tractors and other farm equipment moves around the area regularly.

  • Just reply to the weekly newsletter with the items you want and we’ll get them harvested for you! This service is reserved for those who are physically unable to walk on uneven ground, bend over, be out in the sun, or those with small children and infants. Our farm staff does not have the time to pick items for all of our members but we are happy to accommodate those who need it!
