Education

At IGI, we see food education as the foundation of a strong local food system.

Since 2007 we have worked in every island school, teaching every child from preschool through high school about how to grow food, save seeds, and prepare nourishing food. We also provide resources on regenerative backyard gardening for home growers, and work to advance community food forests island-wide.

We have been able to share best practices for school gardening, cooking with kids and curricular instruction through our toolkit, at state and national conferences and through mentoring of districts in our region. With support from our partners at Mass Farm to School, we have coached districts through the Massachusetts Farm to School Institute, a year-long opportunity to develop a strategic plan for your district. If you are in southeast Massachusetts and would like to work with us, consider applying!
