Why the Education Center?
For 20 years, Island Grown Initiative has worked to strengthen Martha's Vineyard's local food system at every step: growing, sourcing, preparing and distributing food, reducing waste, and connecting people to one another and to the land that feeds us.
Our 42-acre regenerative farm has become the heart of this work. We welcome thousands of students, volunteers, community gardeners, farmers, CSA members, and families to the farm each season.
The Education Center will allow the farm to fulfill its potential as a living laboratory and community hub.
What the Education Center Will Make Possible
With a workshop space,
we will be able to welcome island and visiting farmers year round to share our regenerative techniques.
With a classroom space,
we will be able to host farm field trips in all weather for students of all abilities, and affordable summer and after school learning experiences for children.
With a gathering space,
we will be able to host community celebrations, workshops, and classes.
With a commercial kitchen,
we will be able to lead cooking classes for people of all ages on the land where food is grown.
With accessible facilities,
we will be able to help everyone feel welcome at our farm, regardless of age, ability, or background.
With office space,
we will be able to bring our IGI staff team together under one roof.
